Through the free Google My Business Profile tool, you’re given the ability to take charge of how your business appears on Google Search and Maps. Whether your customers need directions, business hours, general information, or anything in between, Google provides what they need to know about a business – as long as your business is utilizing it correctly. But, how do you ensure your business is accurately listed on Google? Let’s find out.
Why is Google My Business Important for Small Businesses?
Having control over your Google My Business Profile is critical. Without it, Google can auto-generate a profile that may not be accurate for your business. To optimize your business listing on Google, make sure to provide accurate and up-to-date information such as your business name, address, phone number, and website. Additionally, adding photos and responding to customer reviews can help improve your online presence. Remember to regularly monitor your listing and update any changes to ensure your customers have the most accurate information.
How To Create A Google My Business Listing
While a Google My Business Profile allows you to connect with more customers, it must first be created and adhere to Google standards. While Google procedures and standards are ever-changing, for now, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to set up your free profile:
- Login to your Gmail account
2. Click on the square with the 9 dots by your g-mail email icon and click on ‘Business Profile Manager’
3. Once in Business Profile Manager, click on the blue button on the right that is named ‘Add Business’. The drop-down will appear and click on ‘Add Single Business’.
4. From here, Google will prompt you with questions to claim your business. Oftentimes a business will be suggested that may or may not be your business. If it’s your business, claim it. If it’s not, continue with the prompts.
5. Verification of the business may be required. If it is required, follow the instructions to verify your business. The verification prompts can change from time to time. Once you go through the steps to verify your business you will then be given a time frame in which to expect verification from Google.
6. To check on your verification status, simply log back into your Business Profile Manager and view your listing. Once the status is verified it will be listed as ‘verified’ and you will be able to view your listing on Google!
